Smart Engines received Made in Russia Certificates for Smart ID Engine and Smart Code Engine

Smart Engines (Smart Engines Service LLC), a company specializing in developing AI-based solutions for document recognition, has received Made in Russia national certificates from Russian Export Center (REC, VEB Group) for its key software products: Smart ID Engine and Smart Code Engine.

Smart Engines was founded in 2016 by Russian scientists with 25 years of experience in character recognition and image processing. A team of 80 researchers and engineers, 21 of whom hold PhDs and CSc degrees, has developed and patented a number of AI-based technologies. The company holds 69 Russian patents and 14 US patents, and its employees have contributed to more than 350 scientific articles. All Smart Engines software products are developed in Russia, contain no foreign components, and are included in the Unified Register of Russian Software of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications, and Mass Media of the Russian Federation.

Smart Engines technologies are used by a number of major Russian organizations, including Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, and Koltsovo International Airports, as well as Russian Railways and the Federal Tax Service. The company's solutions are integrated into the systems of major Russian banks, including VTB, Alfa-Bank, T-Bank, and Sovkombank. For example, in 2024, half of all QR code payments made in Russia were supported by banks using the Smart Code Engine software solution.

Made in Russia certificates were obtained for Smart ID Engine. The system can recognize all pages of Russian and international passports. It supports approximately 3,000 document types and 5,000 templates in over 100 languages. Artificial intelligence instantly recognizes both printed and handwritten text. Thanks to the unique Sherlock neural network, the system verifies documents for authenticity based on 600 attributes and can compare the bearer's face and the document photo without biometrics, helping prevent fraud. Recognition speed on mobile devices reaches 0.15 seconds per document, and on the server, up to 125 documents per second without the use of graphics cards.

Smart Code Engine is a solution for recognizing any coded elements, including 2D and linear barcodes, payment details, bank card data, phone numbers, meter readings, and vehicle registration plates. The system even reads partially dirty or cropped QR codes, operating in any lighting, weather conditions, and from various camera angles.

In addition to these products, the company offers Smart Document Engine, which is designed to recognize printed and handwritten text in primary accounting, legal, and insurance documents, questionnaires, and unstructured forms.

Smart Engines has been actively developing its technology export since 2016, supplying products to Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, the UAE, and Türkiye. The company plans to expand its presence in Latin America, Southeast Asia, and the MENA region, where interest in Russian fintech solutions and Arabic language recognition technologies is growing. Company's solutions currently serve over 275 million end users worldwide.

The company emphasizes that its software solutions are developed entirely in Russia using proprietary computer vision technologies optimized for domestic processor architectures, including Elbrus, and a number of Russian operating systems. The systems also feature high performance thanks to energy-efficient neural networks, high-quality recognition of printed and handwritten text, versatile support for languages and document types, and complete security within the customer's environment without data transfer.

The company learned about Russian Export Center at GITEX Global and through the media. Smart Engines has already participated in the Made in Russia exhibition at Russia National Center, which has already facilitated new business contacts. The company hopes that the Made in Russia certificate will help strengthen its brand image and expand its opportunities to participate in international exhibitions through the state-run digital platform My Export and national pavilions abroad.

"We see great potential in collaborating with companies in Latin America, as this region is experiencing dynamic growth in fintech and banking automation. We're also closely monitoring the MENA region, where our Arabic language recognition product is showing significant results, and eyeing Southeast Asia due to its interesting writing system," Vladimir Arlazarov, CEO of Smart Engines and Doctor of Engineering Sciences.

Obtaining Made in Russia certificates is a significant step for Smart Engines in promoting Russian AI-based technologies to the international market, confirming their quality and competitiveness.

The Made in Russia mark confirms the high standards and quality of products designed and manufactured in the Russian Federation. To get a free Made in Russia certificate, the company does not need to undergo additional checks by Russian Export Center. The certificate is awarded based on five key criteria, namely quality, reliability, uniqueness, environmental friendliness, and organic origin.
