Russia and China expanding cooperation in new formats

China remains one of Russia's key trade and economic partners. In recent years, the parties have achieved record volumes of mutual trade, while the agenda includes export diversification, development of new cooperation formats, and promotion of non-resource exports. This was stated by Tatyana An, Vice President, Russian Export Center (REC, VEB.RF Group), on June 19 during the Russia - China Business Dialogue at SPIEF-2025.

Tatiana An emphasized that REC is building a support ecosystem, which covers the entire export cycle to China, from the first steps to contract signing. These include national expositions, business missions, trade pavilions, and online stores, which become points of attraction for Chinese consumers.

Specifically, a Russian national pavilion operates in Shanghai, and 13 retail stores under the Made in Russia brand have opened in various provinces. From August 2025, the program will move to a new public-private partnership model with Chinese companies. By the end of the year, REC plans to expand the network of Made in Russia retail stores in China to 300 locations.

In total, over 160 domestic manufacturers with more than 2900 SKUs participate in the promotion program through pavilions and stores. Last year alone, they signed contracts worth almost 19 billion rubles. Moreover, 65% of the suppliers are small and medium-sized businesses.

According to Tatiana An, Made in Russia festival and fairs make a significant contribution to promoting Russian goods in China. The first festival took place in 2024 in Liaoning province. The format has already gained recognition from the Chinese audience. It was noted during negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping and in foreign media, specifically, CNN and Bloomberg reported on the growing popularity of Russian goods in China.

"Following our first Harbin festival and fair, the Chinese delegation was very impressed by products of the national brand and the cultural program. The visit of the Russian President to the Made in Russia stand undoubtedly played a role in increasing attention to the brand. The government of Heilongjiang province invited REC to become a permanent participant in significant annual events in the trade and economic sphere, to which we enthusiastically responded with a second visit this year," Tatiana An, REC Vice President.

According to her, REC is already preparing the sixth Made in Russia festival and fair, which will take place in September in Beijing.

Finally, in China, REC is developing online sales infrastructure: 32 national stores with products from domestic manufacturers operating on 12 Chinese marketplaces.
