When entering international markets, Russian companies face low recognition of their domestic products, which limits their competitiveness against global brands. Promoting the common Made in Russia national brand could be a key solution to the problem.
This topic was the focus of the Global Prospects for Domestic Companies: Made in Russia National Brand plenary session, which took place on August 21 in Blagoveshchensk. The event was part of a meeting on the implementation of the International Cooperation and Export national project in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation that form the Far Eastern Federal District.
The speakers were Pavel Puzanov, Deputy Chairman of the Amur Region Government, Alexander Molodtsov, Vice President of Russian Export Center (REC, VEB.RF Group), Artur Galiullin, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Licensing in Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, and Artur Shamsiev, Acting Head of the Department for Development of Agricultural Products of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.
The panelists discussed key strategies and tools for strengthening Russian companies' presence in global markets. Particular attention was paid to the role of national brand in creating competitive advantages and attracting international consumers.
"As part of the Made in Russia national brand promotion program, Russian Export Center is actively developing a comprehensive support infrastructure for local companies, including exhibitions and business missions. Since 2019, over 5,000 Russian exporters have participated in 307 international exhibitions and business missions in 40 countries and signed contracts worth over 123 billion rubles. We place particular emphasis on developing online presence. These include national stores on major marketplaces, particularly in China, where companies often have problems. Furthermore, together with our partners, we are transforming pavilions into full-fledged retail stores, opening such outlets in various Chinese provinces. These initiatives have already brought success to thousands of companies, who have secured significant export contracts," Alexander Molodtsov.
He also spoke about the effectiveness of the Made in Russia promotion tools.
“We're also actively implementing new promotional formats, such as joint streams with renowned Chinese bloggers. One such stream, featuring a blogger with nearly 100 million followers, generated over a billion rubles in sales for our companies in just a few hours, demonstrating the incredible potential of this tool. Combined with festivals and fairs that facilitate retail sales, these new approaches are producing excellent results. Beyond the traditional food industry, we see great potential in creative industries, dietary supplements, cosmetics, and processed foods, which are actively gaining the trust of consumers worldwide," Alexander Molodtsov.
Deputy Chairman of the Amur Region Government, Pavel Puzanov, spoke about the development of the regional brand.
"Companies that undergo voluntary certification and join the Made in Amur Region brand and, consequently, Made in Russia brand will enjoy a wide range of support, including access to preferential loan financing. We are currently calculating the scope of such support for next year. This will be a valuable addition to promotion, popularization, and certification, as well as direct support for manufacturers who promote their products and simultaneously represent the Amur Region and our country in foreign markets," Pavel Puzanov, Deputy Chairman of the Amur Region Government.
He also spoke about the Buy Amur Products campaign implemented in the region. As part of the promotion, Amur producers attract attention to their products with discounts at retailers, participate in marketing activities, and integrate into the Made in Amur Region and Made in Russia brands. Further expansion into export markets is planned. Buy Amur Products campaign has been included in the White Book of competitive regional practices.
"To participate in the program the company needs to be a Russian manufacturer of high-quality products. Certified companies have a special mission: their products help shape Russia's image. We unite the most ambitious, reliable, and worthy exporters offering unique products to the world under the Made in Russia brand. To date, 58 companies in the Far East have certified their products under the Made in Russia certification program, and I encourage exporters to more actively participate in the program," Alexander Molodtsov.
