METIZ entered the Indonesian market, displacing the German monopolist
The largest Russian manufacturer of components for extremity prosthesis has strengthened its position in Southeast Asia. Last year, METIZ began supplying products to Malaysia, and, in 2024, to the Republic of Indonesia. The island state became the 47th country to purchase products from the Moscow Region-based industrial enterprise.
METIZ prosthetic modules are now available to users in Indonesia. The Russian company have become the second major one in the region supplying components for lower extremity prosthesis. Before METIZ entered the Indonesian market, patients were offered prostheses from a monopoly German brand. Given that the country does not provide full state compensation for the purchase of technical rehabilitation equipment (TRE), few users could afford quality prostheses. Dmitry Nizamov, head of METIZ export department, says the cost of prosthetic products in the region is dramatically high.
"With our company on the Indonesian market, patients will not only have an alternative components for their prostheses, but also the opportunity to purchase and use cheaper modern, functional products, as today on the simplest products by German manufacturer cost a lot of money. The delivery time is also the key factor of success. Our German colleagues in the rehabilitation market offer long delivery times for products, and we are talking not only about the Indonesian market, but also about other Asian countries. That is, patients or prosthetic workshops place orders and receive products in 2-3 months, or even more. We can deliver prosthetic components much faster," Dmitry Nizamov, head of METIZ export department.
METIZ considers the Republic of Indonesia a promising market. To date, the company has established logistics, made the first successful delivery, held negotiations with the management of Indonesian prosthetics schools, and developed a business plan. According to Nizamov, in Q1 2025, the company plans to hold several large training seminars for local prosthetists. The plans include the base warehouse with the most in-demand products. This will allow providing components for prosthetic workshops within 2-3 days, which will improve customer service in the country and ease the life of patients.
"Our business plan for Indonesia is the same as for other regions. We do not enter the regions just to sell, do business, make money. We enter to help people. This is our main message, thanks to which we really manage to supply our products to more and more countries and have success with users," Dmitry Nizamov.
The success of the Russian manufacturer has been marked by domestic awards and international recognition. Thus, in 2024, METIZ was among the top three Exporters of the Year among SMEs at the All-Russian Award in International Cooperation and Export, which is held by the Russian Export Center (VEB.RF Group).
In addition, this year METIZ became the only Russian company included in the ATscale report 2024 on the global market for assistive technologies, prosthetics section, as one of the key manufacturers of components for lower and upper extremity prostheses and a trusted global supplier.
