Legendary Baltic amber enters new markets under the Made in Russia brand

February 18, 2026

Kaliningrad Amber Combine JSC (part of the RT-Finance, Rostec State Corporation), the world's largest amber mining and processing enterprise, has been successfully certified under the Made in Russia program. Semi-finished amber products, pre-processed for souvenirs and jewelry, received a free certificate from Russian Export Center (REC, VEB.RF Group) in the reliability category.

Founded in 1947 on the premises of the Königsberg Amber Manufactory, the plant has been the custodian of the Baltic's "solar gold" for 79 years. The plant's raw material base comprises approximately 90% of the world's amber reserves. However, the plant is not only about mining; it also creates artworks. In 2023, the world's only Amber Fashion House opened on the company's premises. Under the leadership of Maya Aleksandrovna Skvortsova, Deputy General Director for Jewelry Production and Commercial Activities, exclusive collections are created with organogenic stones inlaid not only in luxurious jewelry but also in clothing.

The Made in Russia certificate was awarded for semi-finished amber products. These are stones that have undergone professional processing and are intended for use in souvenirs and jewelry. Demand for shiny semi-finished products is steadily growing. This year, the combine plans to auction a record number of lots to meet the needs of processors.

Mikhail Zatsepin, CEO of the Kaliningrad Amber Combine, emphasizes the importance of a systematic approach: “The course we took in 2014 to improve production efficiency and create a positive image for the Amber Combine has proven to be correct. This allows us to develop steadily and look to the future with confidence.”

The Kaliningrad Amber Combine has been developing export activities for over five years.

Today, its sales geography covers China, Kuwait, the UAE, Serbia, Kazakhstan, and Hong Kong. While China traditionally demonstrates the highest demand, the company's strategy is focused on broad expansion. Near-term plans include entering the markets of India, Japan, Türkiye, and Egypt.

Incidentally, Baltic amber's connection to Egypt is almost mystical. Archaeologists have discovered jewelry made from Baltic amber, identical in composition to Kaliningrad amber, in ancient Egyptian tombs. This discovery, the company explained, confirms that the Amber Road connected the Baltic and the Mediterranean thousands of years ago.

The company's systematic development of its foreign economic activity is inextricably linked to the use of digital infrastructure. Since 2024, the combine has integrated My Export platform's services into its business processes, enabling it to process key documents in a one stop-shop system. Specifically, the plant processes certificates of origin for its products using the platform.

The advantages of My Export platform include automated data verification, which minimizes errors when issuing certificates, and the ability to quickly revise information when reviewing the electronic draft certificate, if necessary. Exporters can also complete country-of-origin assessment procedures digitally and pay for CCI services directly on the platform within a single application, making the certificate process complete, seamless, and, most importantly, convenient.

Receiving the "bird" was an important step for the plant in strengthening its international image.

"The Made in Russia certificate confirms that our products meet the highest standards. This not only strengthens consumer trust but also opens up new opportunities for brand promotion globally," company management.

Thanks to its full production cycle, from raw material extraction to finished jewelry, and the support from Russian Export Center, the plant confidently competes in the global market. The Made in Russia status will serve as an additional guarantee for foreign partners of the stability and quality of this legendary Russian enterprise.

The Made in Russia mark confirms the high standards and quality of products developed and manufactured in the Russian Federation. To receive a free Made in Russia certificate, a company does not need to undergo additional checks by Russian Export Center. The certificate is awarded based on five key criteria: quality, reliability, uniqueness, environmental friendliness, and organic origin. Russian Export Center (REC, VEB Group) is a government institution that supports non-resource and non-energy export. It provides companies from various industries with both financial and non-financial assistance at all stages of entering international markets, including as part of the International Cooperation and Export national project. Most services offered by the REC Group are available online on My Export digital platform. REC is also responsible for the primary functions of supporting and implementing the Made in Russia program, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia coordinates the program within the International Cooperation and Export national project.
